RACING OPPORTUNITIES

Thoroughbred Racing Partnerships at Scenic Hill Stable

For generations, Thoroughbred racehorse ownership was reserved for a select few. Known as the Sport of Kings, it required significant capital, time, and expertise. Today, through syndicate partnerships, Scenic Hill Stable makes racehorse ownership accessible, transparent, and rewarding—without requiring a king’s ransom.

A syndicate partnership allows multiple individuals to collectively own racehorses, sharing both the excitement and the financial responsibility. Each partnership is formed as its own Limited Liability Company (LLC), providing structure, clarity, and protection for all participants. Partners own a percentage interest in the horse and share proportionally in all income, expenses, and potential upside.

Scenic Hill Stable serves as the Managing Partner, overseeing all day-to-day operations so our partners can focus on enjoying the experience. This includes managing expenses, paying bills, coordinating veterinary and farrier care, working directly with trainers, and ensuring the overall well-being and performance of each horse.

Partners contribute only their pro-rata share of expenses, typically paid in manageable quarterly installments based on ownership percentage. We strategically select where we breed and race in order to maximize purse money, owner awards, and breeder incentives, all of which are shared proportionally among partners.

Our horses are acquired through a variety of proven avenues, including public auctions, private purchases, claiming races, and our in-house breeding program. All income and expenses flow directly through the partnership. If a horse generates profits beyond what is needed for operating reserves, distributions are made to partners accordingly.

Scenic Hill Stable operates with complete alignment and transparency. There are no commissions or markups of any kind. The Managing Partner retains an equity interest alongside investors, receives minimal compensation and reimbursement for direct out-of-pocket expenses related to managing the partnership.

In simple terms, a Scenic Hill Stable partnership is a cost-effective, professionally managed way to experience the thrill of Thoroughbred racing ownership—from morning workouts to race day wins—while participating in the financial upside of a carefully structured and incentive-driven program.

PINHOOKING

Pinhooking Opportunity with Scenic Hill Stable

Scenic Hill Stable presents an investment opportunity in thoroughbred pinhooking.

This venture aims to provide a return on investment within a seven-month timeline by leveraging expertise in horse selection, breaking, and training.

Pinhooking in the thoroughbred industry involves purchasing young horses (yearlings) and reselling them later for a profit after a period of development and training.

The strategy is to identify promising yearlings and enhance their value through professional care and training before bringing them back to auction.

Acquisition: Scenic Hill Stable, led by bloodstock agents Randy Miles & Bo Hunt, aims to purchase 7-9 yearlings at the Keeneland and Fasig-Tipton yearling sales in September and October each year. The selection process focuses on yearlings with desirable conformation, pedigree, and athletic potential.

Development and Training: Selected yearlings are sent to New Castle Farm in Ocala, Florida, for breaking and training. This process prepares the horses for futuretraining regimens. Investors are encouraged to visit New Castle Farm to see their yearlings and the training environment.

Sale: The trained horses will be shipped to Timonium, Maryland, for the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale. The goal is to sell the well-prepared horses at this auction to realize a profit for investors.

  • Potential for short-term returns.
  • Investment in tangible assets (thoroughbred horses).
  • Opportunity to be involved in the thoroughbred industry and witness the development of the horses.

BROODMARE BREEDING PARTNERSHIPS

Be there from the beginning

Our broodmare breeding partnerships offer a compelling way to participate in the long-term upside of Thoroughbred breeding. Partners acquire a minimum 50% interest in a broodmare or broodmare already in-foal, with typical purchase prices ranging from $10,000 to $50,000, and select opportunities involving higher-value mares.

Following the foal’s birth in the spring, we evaluate market conditions and quality to determine whether to sell the foal, the mare, or both at major fall or summer auctions.

Monthly expenses are manageable, averaging $10–$20 per percent owned, with potential stud fees if the mare is bred back.

All horses we own at birth list our partnership as the official breeder, qualifying us for the Kentucky Thoroughbred Breeders’ Incentive Fund (KBIF). KBIF pays cash awards to breeders of Kentucky-bred horses that win eligible races anywhere in the world, creating long-term, royalty-style income tied to racing success.

This opportunity is ideal for investors and racing enthusiasts seeking to diversify ownership, participate in elite Kentucky breeding, and experience the thrill of watching their own foal be born.

KBIF is a Kentucky state-backed incentive program that pays cash awards to breeders of Kentucky-bred horses when those horses win eligible races. It is one of the most valuable breeder incentive programs in the world.

KBIF is funded primarily by 80% of the 6% Kentucky sales tax collected on stud fees paid to Kentucky stallions. This creates a consistent and sustainable pool of funds dedicated solely to rewarding breeders.

Any partnership that owns the mare at the time the foal is born is listed as the official breeder and is eligible to receive KBIF awards.

To be eligible:

  • The mare must be bred to a registered Kentucky stallion
  • The mare must remain in Kentucky from breeding until foaling
  • The foal must be registered with KBIF
  • Awards are earned based on the horse’s racing performance and earnings

A major advantage of KBIF is that eligible awards can be earned if the horse wins qualifying races anywhere in the world, not just in Kentucky.

Awards vary, but recent totals show how powerful the program is:

  • $20 million paid to breeders in 2024 (for 2023 earnings)
  • $16.2 million for 2023 earnings
  • $17.4 million for 2022 earnings

Individual race awards include:

  • Up to $3,000 for certain allowance or maiden wins
  • Up to $4,000 for non-graded stakes wins
  • $5,000 for Grade II or III wins
  • $7,500 for Grade I or Group 1 wins
  • $50,000 bonus for the breeder of the Kentucky Derby or Kentucky Oaks winner

KBIF awards apply for the entire racing life of the horse, meaning breeders can receive payments for many years after the foal is born.

KBIF creates a long-term income stream that exists independently of selling the horse. Even if a horse is sold, the breeder may continue to receive awards as long as the horse keeps winning.
